Rhinoplasty: creating harmony

At the Aesthetic Center of Dr. Borodko, we understand how important it is to have a harmonious appearance. Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery services that we provide for your comfort and satisfaction. With rhinoplasty, our skilled surgeons can reshape your profile, get rid of the imperfections that bother you, and help you restore normal breathing.

Indications for rhinoplasty

Indications for rhinoplasty, like most cosmetic surgeries, are very subjective. The perception of the nose as "cosmetically unacceptable" is individual for each patient. Usually, patients come for rhinoplasty because of the widening of the front part of the nose (popularly called a "potato nose"), because of the bifurcation of the nasal end, or because of excessive length.

Indications for nose surgery include:

  • Excessive size
  • Violation of proportions
  • Non-standard shape
  • Humpback
  • Thick end
  • Die-cut end
  • Large, flared wings and nostrils
  • Curvature
  • Violation of the physiological position of the septum, which leads to improper breathing and discomfort

Types of nasal plastic surgery

At our center, we use modern surgical techniques such as open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Each method has its own advantages and possibilities for solving your specific case. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and usually lasts up to 2 hours.

Open rhinoplasty is performed in case of a significant amount of work or repeated intervention. The surgeon makes incisions in the area of natural nasal wrinkles, between the nostrils, and at the base of each nostril. The skin is separated from the cartilage tissue, after which the doctor performs the necessary manipulations to remove, build up or correct the exposed part of the cartilage or bone.

Closed rhinoplasty involves access through the ends of the nostrils. Symmetrical incisions are made along the nostrils, while the surgeon manipulates the instrument in a limited visibility area. This requires high precision, skill, and experience. This method is suitable for minor corrections of the nasal bridge.

Contraindications to rhinoplasty

Professional plastic surgeons at our center approach each patient individually. Before performing rhinoplasty, we will definitely hold a consultation and determine whether there are any restrictions, in particular:

  • Chronic and acute diseases of internal organs
  • Diabetes
  • Blood diseases, blood clotting disorders
  • Viral infection
  • Inflammation of follicles in the nasal area

Rehabilitation after rhinoplasty

After rhinoplasty, the patient will undergo a period of rehabilitation. Postoperative care and recovery are important to achieve the best possible result.

After the surgery, a plastic retainer is placed on the nose. This retainer should be worn for 10 days after the procedure. This will help ensure proper tissue growth and prevent the possibility of bleeding. Tourniquets are inserted into the nasal cavities, which can be removed within 2 days after rhinoplasty.

The first days after surgery may require some adaptation period. Some inconvenience may arise due to the need to breathe through the mouth, especially during the period when the turnstiles are still in the nasal cavity (1-2 days). In some cases, in case of significant interventions, a slight bruising in the eye area may occur. However, these bruises usually disappear simultaneously with the removal of the plaster cast.

During the first month after rhinoplasty, the natural swelling completely subsides, and you will feel your nose take on the desired shape and appearance. Within a week after the procedure, the visible swelling becomes less noticeable, and you can enjoy your new, expressive face.
